Nature Camp!

Nature Camp is back this year on June 5-9! For more details, check out the events page or email naturecamp11@gmail.com.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

Nature Camp, a nonprofit day camp sponsored by Friends of Sanborn, has been providing environmental education through a hands-on two week day camp for 25+ years. Providing knowledge gives children the power to explore the wonders of nature with caution instead of fear! We encourage our campers to turn off their electronics and turn on their curiosity for the natural world around us.

Many of our campers eventually continue with Nature Camp as a counselor, sharing their love of nature with their younger peers. Our staff are all trained in CPR and are led by Camp Director Crystal Cork who has more than 20 years of camp administration, as well as degrees from OSU in Horticulture, Environmental Science, and Forestry, and a certificate in Early Childhood Education.

A TASTE OF CAMP

Camp runs from 8:30 -12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Every day, camp starts by gathering to sing silly songs. Campers then split off into groups (sorted by age) and either go to an educational presenter or are led on unstructured free-explore time with their counselors which can consist of hiking, canoeing, fishing, or even cloud-watching. It is our belief that if campers do not leave a little bit dirty, a little bit scrapped up, and a whole lot more knowledgeable, then we haven't done something right.

We understand that not every camper can afford the full cost of camp, and we make every effort to ensure that they can receive a scholarship to attend camp. If you’re interested in donating scholarships, contact naturecamp11@gmail.com.

A Note From Ms. Crystal

Hello, my name is Ms. Crystal and I will be leading your campers through this week long exploration called Nature Camp!

I am a long time resident of Stillwater, graduating from OSU in Horticulture, Environmental Science, and Forestry and later, I went back for some Early Childhood Ed. I was introduced to Nature Camp in the early 90's when I was asked to educate the campers in Horticulture. The next year I became a counselor and I got hooked. Several years later the Camp Director moved away, but not before making me promise to please keep Nature Camp going!!!

Being a KID-LOVING NATURE NERD I have really enjoyed keeping that promise. For almost 20 years, I have been blessed with a wonderful staff that have enhanced the experience of our campers. Thank you for letting your kids come explore with us, and I look forward to seeing you at camp!

Sincerely,
Ms. Crystal
